Paris Spring Couture 2009

January 28, 2009

Spring is in full swing in Paris and the runways are full of beautiful couture designs! Chanel was showing black and white designs with plenty of lace, sequins, and a tripping model. Armani Privé added in some color, florals and metallics and Christian Dior exhibited all of the above plus voluminous skirts and details inside and out. Trend alert: Head pieces, florals, and structured jackets paired with skirts were shown all around.  Black, white, a mix of metallics and a few bright colors made the cut.

It’s Fashion Week… Do You Know Where Your Children Are?

February 5, 2008

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC started on Friday morning and dozens of the best designers in the world have already sent their Fall 2008 collections down the runway. While many news outlets have been plugging the Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection which was modeled by A-List celebrities to support and promote women’s heart health, there have been countless other newsworthy shows and designs. Here are a few…

5Saturday Morning Abaete got classy with a midnight blue strapless cocktail dress anda beautiful sweetheart neckline. The rest of the collection featured other dark blues, blacks and whites with many skirts (hitting just above the knees) and some three quarter sleeved jackets

Diane Von Furstenberg showcased this beautiful feather dress beneath a more casual blazer, mixing browns and blaks. Both feathers and tailored jackets have made multiple appearances in fall collections this week.

On Friday, Nicole Miller let us know that we’re in for yet another fall/winter season of tights, patent leather, and ankle boots in 2008. Many designers layered up with jackets and different sleeve lengths.
And finally, my favorite so far this week has been Herve Leger by Max Azria. The collection of  dresses was virtually flawless and 100% wearable. Feathers
reappeared (with even some of the models bangs set to look like feathers) along with horizontal stripes in a visibly constructed style and some very subtle florals. 10

Great Wall of Fendi

December 22, 2007

How did I miss this? Some time back in October I must have been too busy with school or work to have seen the news about Fendi‘s $10 million fashion show held on the Great Wall of China!

Not only was this a magnificent display of lighting, planning and design (which according to Fashion Wired Daily could be seen from space by satellite), it showcased Fendi’s Spring/Summer ’08 collection after an exclusive mini collection of reds, black, silver and white ensembles designed for the occasion. The summer collection added color palettes of yellows and cremes. Satin, sequins, stripes, tulle dresses & waist belts were dominant trends on the runway which will continue into summer.

The entire event emitted class and luxury. Guests received velvet Fendi logo hand warmers to keep them warm on their heated seats. A light show above the runway sparkled as the second half of the show took place, which seemed to be timed perfectly with dusk. Not only was this the most expensive fashion show ever, estimated at $10 million, it was probably the most memorable. Not many other fashion houses, if any, would be able to respectably pull off a fashion show on a historical and ancient wonder of the world without much criticism.

I haven’t been so impressed with a combination of fashion, innovation and planning since the Kate Moss hologram in Alexander McQueen’s ’06 fashion show  and even that does not compare on any level to the Fendi show which took 12 months of planning and exhibited much more wearable fashions.
