My Hypothesis on FitFlops

July 25, 2009

Fitflop

I’ve been seeing more and more of FitFlops on the streets (yes, surprisingly even in NYC) and I’m not quite sure what I think about them. So I’m going to break it down in this post… If you own a pair- I really want to hear from someone who wears them- please email me or leave a comment!

Evidence/Research: Reviews on the FitFlop website that range from:

  • “After only a couple of weeks of wearing my new oasis fitflops, my hip felt like new!” – Amanda, NY

to…

  • “I can feel my muscles toning and baring bad weather I wear them in and out of the house and i am now pain free” – Kate, London

to…

  • “I went from a size four to a size two and for the first time in years I am wearing shorts!” – Irene, NY

So what I gather solely from these reviews, is that they ARE comfortable, they DO have some toning effects, and customers love them. Even the customer reviews on Amazon.com, (where FitFlop marketing can’t interfere with negative comments) were considerably high.

Croc Boot

The Results: In contrast to my hatred for Crocs, the style of FitFlops is not that bad if these shoes are comfortable and they really do what they say they do. Afterall, they are flip flops– they aren’t claiming to be a “shoe” or making ugly children’s rain boots just because some people are crazy enough to buy them. In fact, if FitFlops really are working, then I wish MORE people would wear them. The atrocious excuses for shoes that I see on my commute would be much better off if they were replaced with FitFlops.

Conclusion: I’m going to go ahead and say that FitFlops are going to gain a lot of attention and brand awareness (AKA: $$$) by next summer- especially with their Twitter presence and big city Ad Campaigns in New York and London. And to my own surprise- I’m going to tell you that it is not a sin to buy them. If I had any money at all to spend on an extra pair of non-Heels, I would try them myself. These are my top 2 picks:

Launch Party for the Cole Haan Whitney Collection

July 25, 2009

The Madison Avenue Cole Haan store was packed to the brims on Wednesday night when Guest of a Guest hosted the Cole Haan launch party for its new Whitney Collection. The collection is a trendy, urban line with some bright blues and purples in addition to the classic browns, blacks and grays that Cole Haan tends to carry. Blue and grey flats, heels with elastic bands, sporty leather hand bags, and studded accessories were standouts in the collection. These were some of my favorite pieces:

Stop the Humidity-Hair Horror Show!

June 12, 2009

This NYC weather has been absolutely wretched for tresses lately- one morning it’s raining and humid and the next is sunny and dry! I have gathered a team of stylists a hem… products… that help me battle the humid/unpredictable conditions!

Redken Outshine 01

Redken Outshine 01

FIGHT FRIZZ
I used to not even bother straightening my hair on days I knew it was going to be humid outside- because my baby curls (yes, at the age of 23 i still call them baby curls)  tend to wind up and stick out with the slightest hint of dew in the air. Luckily, I discovered Outshine 01 from Redken. It is infused with shea butter to keep frizz under control, and it leaves hair feeling light- not locked down.

Scruples Rock Hard

Scruples Rock Hard

HOLD TIGHT

Scruples’ rock hard finishing spray will keep your hair in place without leaving it sticky or tacky. I have found that it can hold curls all day long, and I also use it to keep volume by spraying it under my roots! All of Scruples’ hair products help to improve hair’s inner strength and they contain no animal ingredients or by-products. They can all be found on ScruplesHairCare.com.

Aussie Sprunch Spray

Aussie Sprunch Spray

SCRUNCH UP

I do not believe that all hair products have to cost a lot of money to work- and Aussie‘s Sprunch Spray does just what it sounds like- it waves your hair up when you scrunch it while drying. This is a great solution when you are running late and your hair is still a little damp- or when you wake up late to crazy bends in your hair- spray in wet or dry hair and scrunch it up for beach-casual waves! I have been using this product since high school, and I am so glad it is now available in aerosal, too!

Redken Sun Sparkle

Redken Sun Sparkle

PROTECT
Redken’s Color Extend Sun Sparkling Shield is a must for summer hair protection! The spray in solution provides water-resistant protection against UVA/UVB rays, chlorine and other minerals. Apply all day while swimming or at the beach to protect AND create a polished finish.

Scruples Hypershine Spray

REPAIR

I’m sure your stylist has told you that all of those heating tools can do a ton of damage to your hair. Now you can protect and repair with a product that enhances your style while saving your hair- Scruples Hypershine Repair Spray. It can protects hair when applied before styling and then as a finishing gloss when you are done! Enhanced with argan oil, Hypershine  leaves hair both healthy and shiny (and it smells great too)!

WEN Tea Tree Cleansing Conditioner

WEN Tea Tree Cleansing Conditioner

CONDITION
As I wrote about in a previous post, I received WEN’s Tea Tree Cleansing Conditioner in a gift bag from a fashion event last month. I have since been able to try it out, and I love love love the results of using this as a deep conditioning treatment! It smells refreshing and it leaves my hair baby soft!

Prepare to Launch…

May 22, 2009

Wednesday night was an exciting night for fashion- I attended collection previews for 3 up and coming designers, and all were an occasion to celebrate!

Farrah Delaunay Launch Party
Model-turned-designer, Farrah Delaunay, showcased her newest collection at the Edward Tyler Nahem Gallery. With bright colors, fine leathers and unique West African fabrics, the bags in her Bambou collection have an exotic appeal. In an array of shapes and sizes, the smaller bags are perfect for days out on the town and the larger bags are travel-ready. Champagne and sushi were served as the crowd mingled about the gallery, taking guesses as to which NYC buyers and boutiques would be the first to snatch up Farrah’s bags. I loved the zipper detailing and interesting shape of the Dakar bags, and the convenient size of the head-turning Lagos bags. One of my other favorite bags was the gift bag! The cotton, beach-style Farrah bag included a customized scented lotion “Bambou Blend” from Bath Junkie; Vita Coco Cocunut Water; Wake Up Women A book for women by women about being happy, healthy and wealthy; Tea Tree cleansing conditioner by Wen, certificates for At Home Pampering Services, Ancient Miracle in a Bottle, and a Tru Nutrition Chocolate sample.

Here are some pics from the event:

Paige Gamble & Kara Ackerman Exclusive Sale

Handbag designer Paige Gamble and jewelry designer Kara Ackerman teamed up for an exclusive sale and preview of their spring/summer collections at the Pucci Building. A high style crowd was gathered to view the young designer’s newest creations.

Paige Gamble’s handbags are made of the finest leathers with luxurious accents such as peacock feathers, crystals, gemstones, and hand-carved jade. I had the opportunity to meet the designer, and she explained to me how her extensive design team comes together from all over the world to create her one of a kind bags- some accent pieces are hand picked in Asia, a tattoo artist in the West who custom-details the leathers, someone hand enamels certain accents, and overall she complimented her great design team and attributed them to her success. Paige Gamble bags are truly statement pieces- if I had the money, I would buy any one of them in a heart beat! Until then, I can stare at these pics from Wednesday night’s event:

Kara Ackerman also creates standout pieces with a unique touch. She has three lines- GemGirls, KSA designs for Men, and Kara Ackerman. Each line is distinct- GemGirls seemingly for a younger target audience, KSA- self explanatorily for men, and Kara Ackerman having a more refined look. I enjoyed seeing all of the lines, but was most intrigued be the KSA line with various cuff links and accessories for men, and the pearls and gemstones in the Kara Ackerman line. These are my favorite pieces from the event, but you can see more of her designs onkaracreations.com:

Paris Spring Couture 2009

January 28, 2009

Spring is in full swing in Paris and the runways are full of beautiful couture designs! Chanel was showing black and white designs with plenty of lace, sequins, and a tripping model. Armani Privé added in some color, florals and metallics and Christian Dior exhibited all of the above plus voluminous skirts and details inside and out. Trend alert: Head pieces, florals, and structured jackets paired with skirts were shown all around.  Black, white, a mix of metallics and a few bright colors made the cut.

Swim in Style

June 1, 2008

Although I have yet to make a bikini purchase this summer, there are many prospects to choose from in all different prices, prints, and styles. These are just a few of my favorites:

http://www.target.com/xhilaration-Xhilaration-Swimwear-Gold/dp/B0018Q7LJ8/ref=in_pe_recently-viewed-items_1/601-5501550-6347349

Some of the trends this summer include polka dots, stripes, and floral and latin-inspired prints. If you are on a budget, Target always has inexpensive bathing suits. I found this gold polka dotted bikini, a play on the “yellow polka dot bikini” for $30 total on Target.com.

Another yellow suit that I love is by Vitamin A. I first saw it on Tila Tequila (of all places) and hunted everywhere on the internet to find it. Vitamin A Bikini

Everything But Water carries it in yellow and in black. The black style has a few other bottoms to choose from online, but I like the yellow bottom that was featured.

\

The bandeau style top is flattering for small busts, just like this other bathing suit with a balconet style top from Betsey Johnson which can be found at Nordstrom.

Finally, the one piece style that I love is the strapless one piece. Strapless one piece suits are more flattering and don’t leave crazy tan lines from side or back cut-outs like other popular one pieces. I found this Lea Gottlieb bandeau one piece on Bloomingdales.com. I love the detail in all the right places and it would look very cute with the right cover up, such as the one that is featured on the purchase page.

A Dark Cloud Comes Over Our Closets

April 30, 2008

I have gladly worn dresses the last 3 summer seasons. Form flattering, fun, and comfortable, dresses are a great way to show off femininity and a great pair of heels. Unfortunately, the fashion gods have officially declared their doom. According to the fashion editors, stylists, and designers who make and create trend forecasts, dresses will officially drop off of the style radar by the end of August. The styles that will be replacing the dresses are going to be more tailored with wide leg pants, and a continuance of the high waist on bottoms. One of my favorite outfits I have seen in this style was by Ralph Lauren. This look was created for his 40th anniversary line. While most of us will not be wearing this tuxedo-like style, this outfit emphasizes the feel of fall fashion. If you just aren’t ready to let go and are still looking for a dress to wear this spring or summer, go for small floral prints.
